NVIDIA’s Pascal architecture has remained extremely popular and provided a good performance boost for users across different pricing tiers. While the higher-end cards are quite expensive, there’s nothing on the market right now which can offer a similar experience, especially when deploying a high-resolution monitor. During the Maxwell series of products, NVIDIA unveiled the GTX 980, before releasing the flagship Titan X. Some users perceived this as the ultimate graphics solution and invested a considerable amount of money. Then, not so long after, NVIDIA unleashed the GTX 980Ti which offered similar performance at a much lower price point. Not only that, they allowed custom models to be made which eventually led to fairly decent improvements over the Titan X.
As a result, it’s not beyond the realm of possibilities, for a similar situation to happen again and NVIDIA could be gearing up to launch the GTX 1080Ti in the near future. Recently, NVIDIA announced that they will be headlining CES 2017, the world’s largest consumer electronics show. While details remain fairly brief, the press release said:
“When Huang takes the stage, you can be sure he’ll break news in some of the areas we’re focused on: artificial intelligence, self-driving cars, virtual reality, and gaming.”
Given that NVIDIA is headlining an event as massive as CES, I’m expecting to see some major news across different areas. Perhaps, the new GTX 1080Ti will be unveiled or information regarding a new architecture. Of course, NVIDIA could focus on self-driving cars or deep learning. VR and its future will also spark a lot of interest.
