Those of you who are gaming on a GTX 900m graphics card are probably well aware of the fact that Nvidia has been disabling and re-enabling overclocking on these chips through their drivers. The original launch drivers for these graphics cards allowed users to overclock them in order to squeeze out some extra frames per second in games, but the R347 drivers that followed disabled this feature. Nvidia stated that users could only overclock their cards in the first place due to a bug, which angered the PC enthusiast community quite a bit.
In order to appease them, the company released the 347.88 drivers alongside an apology, but the following R350 drivers disabled the feature once more. That last move was made quietly for obvious reasons, but it looks like Nvidia has changed its mind again. With the help of the GeForce 353.00 Hotfix, owners of GTX 900M cards are now able to overclock them as they please. The release notes for the hotfix say that it “fixes a regression that prevented overclocking the GPU on some GeForce Notebooks.”
So if you’re looking to ramp up the FPS a bit in games such as Witcher 3 and GTA V on your GTX 900M-powered notebook, you can go ahead and download the hotfix right here.
