A possible cut-down RTX 4070 with an AD103 GPU may be in the works.
The RTX 4070 currently uses an AD104 GPU but according to hardware leaker kopite7kimi on Twitter(via VideoCardz), NVIDIA could be making a variant of the card which instead features an AD103 GPU which is used on the RTX 4080, so what could this mean for this new variant? Supposedly the AD103 and AD104 GPUs are pin compatible so board partners won’t have issues installing the chips and the AD103 will simply feature a cut-down design with a lower TDP however GPU swapping can lead to issues with L3 cache size, ROP count and encoding capabilities.
This is just a rumour though so whether it comes to fruition and what differences we see is anyone’s guess, though some people are thinking we may see a higher VRAM model.
