NVIDIA Pushes SK Hynix to Accelerate HBM4 Production

It seems that NVIDIA wants to launch its next products ahead of time. We are not talking about graphics cards for gamers, which are rumored to be coming in January of next year; instead, this is about the company’s upcoming accelerator solutions in the market they currently lead. To achieve this, NVIDIA has asked its main memory supplier, SK Hynix, to move up production of the next generation of high-bandwidth memory, known as HBM4, by six months.

NVIDIA’s Accelerated Timeline and SK Hynix’s Response

Although SK Hynix recently introduced new HBM3E-based solutions with capacities of 16GB and up to 48GB, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has asked SK Hynix President to expedite the production of HBM4, initially planned for the second half of 2025. SK Hynix’s response to this ambitious request was, “We will give it a try.” NVIDIA’s push is likely aimed at meeting the surging demand for accelerators, driven by the widespread integration of artificial intelligence across devices.

Let’s remember that NVIDIA introduced its Blackwell-based accelerator generation this year, expected to be available this December. However, with faster memory, they could launch a renewed model that handles even greater workloads.

By the end of this year, the first NVIDIA clients will start receiving initial units, but for those looking forward to the HBM4 memory, they’ll need to wait at least an additional six months.
