Nvidia Releases Fix for Discord Memory Performance Issues

Recently a new bug was found in NVIDIA GPU’s which caused the Memory speeds to be throttled when Discord was open in the background.

This bug was initially discovered and documented by users on the Linustechtips forums and reddit who discovered that some NVIDIA cards were being throttled on their memory speeds by as much as 200mhz when Discord was open. This was initially reported by LTT forum user SephiRock with their 3060ti dropping from 7000MHz to 6800MHz when Discord was open.

What is the fix?

If you have been experiencing this issue then there is good news as NVIDIA have confirmed that the issue was due to a recent discord update which had added AV1 Codec support, and today has announced that a new app profile update can now be downloaded to remedy this issue.

Judging by the replies a few people were confused by the wording of this tweet as to what an app profile update was and were confused whether they had to install this themselves based on the “you can now download” or it would be automatic “the update automatically downloads to your pc”. From NVIDIA’s further responses to clarify, this is simply an update to drivers that is done ‘over the air’ which pretty much means that you don’t have to do anything and these will be installed automatically. Nvidia also has a guide for manually installing this update in the circumstances that you don’t get the update, which is linked here.
