NVIDIA Reveals New App To Replace GeForce Experience & Control Panel

NVIDIA Control panel is quite an old bit of software, it works but it’s very clunky and slow, but we can look past that because It WORKS. NVIDIA also has GeForce Experience which is ok, but doesn’t offer all the functionality of the control panel. Today NVIDIA has revealed another app, the NVIDIA App set to replace GeForce Experience and integrate some of the functionality of the control panel.

NVIDIA App

The new NVIDIA App has been revealed in Beta, and aims to unify the functionality of GeForce Experience. It offers all the same features of GeForce experience including the quick and easy driver updates for both gaming and studio drivers, GPU optimisation settings which I’ve historically found to be pointless, as well as NVIDIA Shadowplay and overlay. The app also integrates the Control Panel’s 3D settings but not everything that the control panel offers, though that will change in the future.

NVIDIA’s other apps such as GeForce NOW, NVIDIA Broadcast, and NVIDIA Canvas are also all available to download and access within this app. Also worth noting there is a rewards tab which by logging into your GeForce account, fans of Call of Duty MWIII can receive an XP bundle.

The in-game overlay has been improved as well with a redesigned UI as well as significantly better performance statistics. Previously you could only see a set few performance statistics when hitting Alt+R, but with this new version you can choose exactly what you want to see from temperatures, clocks, frame rate and more.

Quite recently NVIDIA revealed its RTX HDR technology which was at the time designed only to transform SDR videos to HDR though was followed by a third-party mod to get it working in games. With the NVIDIA app, this can now be officially used in games as a Freestyle filter alongside RTX Dynamic Vibrance both powered by AI.

The app looks fine, it’s tidy, runs smoothly (so far), and it does what it needs to. Of course it is in Beta and more features will come in the future including the rest of the features within Control Panel, GPU overclocking, Driver Roll-back and much more. During the Beta period, both GeForce Experience and Control Panel will still be available but whilst not explicitly stated, I imagine they will be fully discontinued after the Beta period.

Unfortunately some features will not make it across including those that were underutilized or have better alternatives available. One of those features includes the Broadcast to Twitch or Youtube, sharing to social media, and Photo Mode 360 and Stereo Captures.

If you’re someone who regularly uses the features of GeForce Experience and want something a bit cleaner, you can download the NVIDIA App here.
