Overall Game Average FPS
So lots of data we’ve gone through, and for the most part, I’m left feeling a bit hollow. For some titles, it traded blows with the RTX 3080 and higher-end 6000 series from AMD, but that’s about it, because while it traded blows, in other titles, they demolished it, in some cases by 14% or higher.
It’s moments like these where I refer to my statement about taking things with a pinch of salt because it’s not really lived up to the hype. It’s not bad, but for a 40 series card, it doesn’t seem to have that same level of excitement when it comes to performance that the rest of the stack had. Maybe that’s me expecting too much for a mid-tier card, because I’ve been spoiled with the likes of the 4080 and 4090, or maybe I’m onto something.
So in terms of numbers, the 4060 Ti sits where I honestly expected it to, between both the 3060 Ti and 3070 though in some cases, it did excel in performance and overtake the 3070 and was knocking on the door of the 3070 Ti. With that said, there were also moments where performance tanked pretty hard, especially in the dips. As mentioned, this is likely due to the game needing patching or something that a driver update could potentially fix but this may not be for a little while.
What is worth looking at is the overall average FPS, and at 1080p, again it does sit right between both the 3060 Ti and 3070 but is actually a lot closer over the 14 games to the 3070 being separated by a single frame per second in the averages, and a slightly larger 3% in the lows. Considering both the 3060 Ti and 2060 SUPER also launched at the same $399 price tag, seeing an uplift of 10% and 46% respectively is pretty nice to see.
At 1440p the gap between the 4060 Ti and 3070 widens slightly now with just 4% separating them, while compared to the 3060 Ti, the new Ada Lovelace-based GPU commands a 7% lead overall.
Then at 4K, it’s a very similar story, with some close numbers between the two 30 series cards and the 4060 Ti sitting comfortably in between at 59 FPS average.
