Cyberpunk sees the SUPER bridge quite a gap at 1080p, but it’s a little bit of smoke and mirrors. While we do see an 11% uplift in performance over the non-SUPER and the card moves up the stack in our charts, it’s a bit of a lie as the likes of the RTX 4090 is showing its severe bottleneck at this lower resolution, so I think it’s safe to take that out of the equation, but other key metrics are how the 4070 SUPER now matches the performance of the 4070 Ti, but again, bottlenecks are rearing their ugly head here.
1440p is where this card is firmly set in terms of its sights and it’s here where it really gets to stretch its legs with a 36% lead over the non-SUPER which practically matches the performance of the RTX 3070. Even after multiple retests, the RTX 4070 does well, but the SUPER really does manage to push those numbers up, which is impressive, though is still let down somewhat due to the 7800 XT performing 6% better, and for a cheaper price.
At 4K, the 4070 SUPER shows its largest gain yet, of 48% over the non-SUPER but it does still mean we’re sitting at 37 FPS which isn’t all that great. Though as we move up the chart, the only card that can really tame Cyberpunk at 4K Ultra is the RTX 4090 at 65 FPS, so really it’s horses for courses and at this extreme settings and resolution, the 4070 SUPER really isn’t the one to go for.
Enabling Ray Tracing in Cyberpunk as we move back to 1080p and it’s here where AMD doesn’t really stand much of a chance. Firstly, the 4070 SUPER offers up 23% more performance compared to its predecessor, while also seeing a huge 68% lead over the 7800 XT and an astonishing 103% lead over the 7700 XT as you’d expect, especially considering the higher price point.
As we move up to 1440p, the 4070 SUPER commands a 20% lead over the non SUPER which now puts it around 9% slower than the more expensive 4070 Ti so there’s something, and at 42 FPS it is still playable, though DLSS, especially with frame generation will definitely be your best friend here, and is something that AMD just don’t have a solid answer to right now.
At 4K with Ray Tracing set to Ultra, we do see a small 6% lead as we move from the non-SUPER to the SUPER, but that sadly equates to only 1 frame per second and in all honesty, only the RTX 4090 is able to pull off what I’d class as playable performance, without DLSS being enabled.
