Nvidia RTX Series Guide to RayTracing and DLSS

What Does Ray Tracing Do?
This one is a big change for real-time rendering. The Turing architecture’s new RT Cores enable real-time ray tracing of objects and environments with physically accurate shadows, reflections, refractions and global illumination. This is a hugely different technique than Screen Space Reflections or trick rendering techniques that are used to create “fake” reflections. Pixels are calculated from the viewpoint (screen), into the scene, bounced off every object they reach, and take the properties of that into account. Much like a photon of light would as it hits an object, then hit your eye, showing you the colour, intensity, etc.
Ray Tracing Games
Please note, no games are playable with Ray Tracing right now. The DirectX RT update and patches from their respective developers are required. However, here are the ones announced so far. Take note of the games I’ve put in bold, as they’ll be the ones supporting both DLSS and Ray Tracing; who-hoo!
