Nvidia has been doing great things over the last few years, starting with their Shield Console, the powerful portable handheld that was great for playing games on long journeys, or even sat on the loo! Two years ago the released the Shield Tablet, which is still the best Android gaming tablet on the market, and something we still use daily here at eTeknix. Then last year, we reviewed the truly fantastic Shield TV, which is still the most powerful Android gaming system on the market by a factor of 3! When it comes to playing great games on the big screen it’s pretty awesome, and it’s even better when it comes to streaming 4K games from your PC to your TV.
“NVIDIA SHIELD is a streaming beast. The fastest, smoothest 4K HDR video. Infinite apps and entertainment. NVIDIA-powered gaming in the cloud or from your PC. The power to control every experience with your voice—soon even your home. It’s everything you want in one game-changing device that’s 3X faster than the closest competitor.”
Now we’re in 2017, and Nvidia is back once again with the newly announced model, this time with the latest and greatest Nvidia Shield TV system to date. At its absolute core, this is still the same Nvidia Shield TV we know and love, but it’s now smaller, more affordable than ever, and comes with some redesigned features and peripherals that are set to make it better than ever, so how does it compare? Let’s find out!
“Movies and television shows pop with stunning detail. Watching sports feels like you’re courtside. 4K HDR delivers ultra-realistic image quality that’s 4X sharper than last-generation 2K HDTVs with a color spectrum that’s twice as rich. And High Dynamic Range (HDR) means you see more colors, more details, and brighter images for true visual depth.”
Gaming, movies, music, and more, the Shield TV promises to deliver them all in one tiny console.
Packaging and Accessories
The first thing we notice about the new Shield TV is that it comes as a complete package, with the remote and the new controller all in one box, so no need to try to find stock of the remote for your multimedia needs.
In the box, you’ll find a USB cable for charging the peripherals, as well as a mains adaptor and the usual documentation. No HDMI cable or ethernet cable included, but these are likely something we all have plenty of lying around these days.
