Nvidia has recently announced Project SHIELD, a portable gaming device made to play Android games or to stream games from your PC.
The console is a handheld device and it is powered by Nvidia’s latest Tegra 4 processor which uses ARM Quad Core Cortex A15 processors and a custom made Nvidia 72-core GeForce GPU. Nvidia also claims this as the fastest processor for mobile devices in the world while providing power-saving features for power hungry applications in portable devices.
The Nvidia powered hand-held android gaming system has everything built in. It has its own built-in 5″ multi touch panels with resolution of 1280 x 720 resolution and 294 dpi with an ergonomically designed console controller that we usually see in consoles. It also comes with Wi-Fi.
The major feature is the ability to play Windows games via streaming, even though the OS is Android’s Jelly bean- which can be used to access Google Play and Nvidia’s Tegrazone. The built-in Wi-Fi allows streaming PC games from systems that use Nvidia GPUs. So you access a lot of games from multiple sources on an independent gaming portable device.
There is also a custom made bass reflex and tuned port audio system built on to the device.
Nvidia is obviously venturing into the hand-held console market with a twist to satisfy the group of gamers who usually stick to the PC.
