Nvidia Will Not Release the GeForce GTX 980MX and 970MX

Lately, there have been some rumors going around that Nvidia is gearing up to release the official successors of the GeForce GTX 980M and 970M graphics cards. Apparently, the cards would have been named GTX 980MX and GTX 970MX, and the possibility of their existence certainly raised the interest of many gamers around the world. Unfortunately, it looks like the rumors were false as Nvidia does not plan to upgrade its current top-tier mobile gaming cards, not before Pascal comes out anyway. Speaking of Pascal, the company’s new architecture is now rumored to arrive before the year’s end, which would explain why Nvidia has chosen to give up on the aforementioned MX versions.

Moreover, Nvidia’s representatives believe that there is no reason to upgrade these cards just yet, and I have to say that I agree with them on this one, as I haven’t seen a game that can’t be run decently on a 980M right now. The initial news suggested that the 980MX and 970MX would launch in the second half of 2016, and some users even went ahead and posted a series of possible tech specifications for them. The truth is that if you’re currently gaming on a notebook equipped with one of Nvidia’s high-end mobile graphics cards, you’ll have no choice but to hold on to that notebook for now or switch over to a gaming PC.
