Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1060 Is Likely to Have a 256-Bit Bus

Slowly but surely, we’re getting more and more information regarding Nvidia’s new Pascal lineup, and while we already know quite a few things about the 1080 and 1070 GPUs, it’s time for the lower-end GTX 1060 to make an entrance. Even though it’s definitely going to be weaker when compared to Nvidia’s top-tier offerings, the GTX 1060 will probably pack a serious punch thanks to the new Pascal architecture, especially if it’s going to feature a 256-bit memory bus. Sources pointed to a recent entry in the Zauba database, which shows the GP106 GPU with 256-bits worth of bus width, which is interesting since the 1080 and 1070 models actually feature the same bus.

We also know that the GPU will have high-density GDDR5, and that it will include either 4GB or 8GB of memory in total. However, since the database entry referred to the GP106 GPU in general, it’s entirely possible that these specifications will apply to a more powerful 1060 Ti model. As far as power is concerned, the card should not need any additional power connectors by default, but it’s likely that it will feature a six-pin connector for overclocking purposes, particularly since these new Pascal cards are capable of reaching impressive clock speeds. If the GTX 1060 proves to be a reliable VR-ready graphics card, it could pose a serious threat to AMD’s upcoming Polaris cards, which were designed to “expand the Total Available Market for VR.” Considering that it should be priced somewhere between $250 and $300, this model will also appeal to budget-conscious gamers that still want to enjoy decent performance in the latest games.
