NZXT Function 2 Optical MINITKL Gaming Keyboard Review

How Much Does it Cost?
The old NZXT Function miniTKL is currently on Amazon for £119, which is pretty reasonable given the quality of it. However, this new one is just £129.99. At just £10 more, it’s not bad value at all, sure it’s not cheap either, but for a premium quality keyboard it’s not exactly a shocking price either. With the upgraded keycaps, switches, polling rate, and other features, I’d say it’s very competitive, and a fantastic upgrade from the old model, or for those looking to invest in a new keyboard in general.
Overview
NZXT may be best known for their PC cases, but over the years, they’ve built a pretty respectable reputation in the wider PC market. Their CPU coolers are some of the best you can buy, and some of the best looking too. They have a fantastic range of power supplies, their microphones are superb, and they have some fantastic gaming monitors, gaming chairs and more. With all that in mind, it’s hardly surprising to see them continue to develop their peripherals to take them to the next level and remain competitive in what is a pretty over-saturated and fiercely competitive market.
While these keyboards are excellent, I think it’s fair to say they’re as good as the best from any other big-name brand. While they’re on par with the other big-name brands, why would you buy NZXT? Well, I think the aesthetics are the biggest dividing factor from one brand to another, and NZXT does have some gorgeous-looking keyboards here, so I think on that alone, they’ll prove pretty popular.
However, the bigger factor is the NZXT enthusiast market. If you have an NZXT with an NZXT cooler and PSU, then peripherals are the next logical step. You can have virtually your entire gaming setup with all aesthetically matching NZXT products, and that brand unity, when done right, can take your gaming setup’s aesthetics to the next level.
Of course, aesthetics and brand names are one thing, but if the product is trash, then it’s never going to hold up. However, NZXT has put the focus on the sort of features and quality any keyboard enthusiast would be looking for. They’ve taken a few ideas from the custom-keyboard builders out there too, such as the PCB tape mod, additional interior foam, hot-swappable switches, and additional switch types included in the box, which allows this keyboard to offer a more premium level of performance and usability.
Should I Buy One?
If you’re looking for a premium quality keyboard for work and gaming, then the NZXT Function 2 MiniTKL is up there with the best. With flagship build quality, aesthetics and performance, I really can’t fault it and it’s hitting the market at a price that puts it in firm competition with the other big names in the market. I can’t see any reason why an enthusiast gamer wouldn’t love 0.2ms response times, 100m rated optical switches and an 8000Hz polling rate built into such a durable and premium quality product.
