OCUK Mega-Mega Mat 3XL Elite Tactical Gaming Surface Review

Before I talk about gaming, I think its important we first go back to the size on this surface. It’s obviously too big to just be a mouse mat, when rolled out this takes up an area that is generally bigger than the average desk. Fortunately I have a large enough desk at my disposal but its certainly not practical for those with a trolley desk or slide out keyboard / mouse area.
Because of its larger size and the desk I’m using this on, the 3XL actually protects the entire desktop surface, which is fantastic as its a wooden surface and this will prevent any more scratches being carved into it by absolutely everything that rests upon it. It looks a little odd at first having my monitor, speakers, keyboard, mouse, router and telephone base unit on the mat but it does also mean I don’t have to worry about where my keyboard or mouse are located while gaming, I’ll always have spare surface to move around in while in the heat of battle.
I fired up Battlefield 3 and spent half an hour with the Kone XTD and both the different chassis bases that come with the Gigabyte Aivia, with both mice in several chassis or weight configurations I ran into zero problems with the 3XL. Personally I prefer my mouse to glide as much as possible, but at the same time I like my mouse heavy and usually have all the weights installed in the mouse (if the mouse supports them). The softer surface of the 3XL still managed to provide excellent level of glide and speed, but was soft enough that the extra weight added to my mouse gave the extra level of control I desire. Overall its a fantastic gaming surface and playing a couple of hours on Battlefield 3 was a joy on this surface.
