Oculus Removes Gear VR Support For Galaxy Note 7

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 can’t catch a break and is destined to be classified as a complete disaster. Unfortunately, the original models setting ablaze due to a battery fault caused a host of negative headlines and consumers reconsidering their purchase. Additionally, new information apparently claims replacement units suffered the same fate and this entire escapade has been extremely embarrassing for Samsung and their reputation. Of course, this saga is far from over and the latest revelation will make some owners of the device unhappy.
In lieu of the safety concerns, Oculus has decided to remove the Galaxy Note 7 support for Gear VR. This is a sensible move because the handset attaches extremely close to the individual’s eyes and might have dire consequences if the battery fails. Honestly, it’s about time for Samsung to shelve the Galaxy Note 7 and try to repair their reputation with future models. Apparently, some users have reported that the Oculus update has disabled support on other handsets. Although, I’d imagine this is being looked into and resolved relatively soon. Whether or not you’re a fan of Samsung products, it’s difficult to see a company struggling with such an important product launch. Perhaps they can recover but only time will tell.
