Oculus Rift Has Raised Over $16m In Funding So Far

Oculus Rift has already proven its self to be popular, it smashed through its humble Kickstarter goals in next to no time and picked up $2.4 million along the way, but it seems that no one wants to miss out on the action of what could be the ultimate or at least the best so-far solution to virtual reality technology.

Since it reached its original Kickstarter goals Oculus Rift has gone on to rake in a staggering $16 million in investment and funding so far, which will have gone and will continue to go towards improving the technology, advancing its development processes, helping with manufacturing and of course getting the product to retail.

While many people have already invested in the development kit, despite its lower resolution and lack of audio compared to what will see in the retail edition, Oculus Rift was on show at E3 where they demoed a brand new 1080p prototype and I doubt that they’ll sit on their hands with the retail edition given the current success, so I would expect more impressive prototypes in the future.

“There are still many challenging problems to solve,” said Iribe. “But with the support of these great investment partners, and our passionate community, we will continue to hire the brightest minds and stay laser focused on delivering the very best virtual reality platform possible.” Said Brendan Iribe, Oculus VR CEO when speaking to IGN.

Personally I can’t wait to get my hands on the final edition, I’ve almost given in and purchased the dev kit before, but I think this is one gadget that I need to keep on my Chrismas list.
