Final Thoughts

Pricing

We can currently only provide an MSRP on the drives as we’re launching this review at the same time as the drives are being released. The MSRP for the OCZ TRION 480GB is set to £124.99 in the UK and $184.99 in the US. The other capacities 120GB, 240Gb and 960GB will cost you £38.49, £60.99, and £219.99 respectively in the UK and $56.99, $87.99, and $369.99 in the US.

Conclusion

OCZ has released some great drives since they became part of Toshiba, not that they were bad before. The TRION 100 is no different and it is packed full with Toshiba’s technology for a complete in-house creation. The drive is designed very simplistic and is made of two pieces that snap right together. There aren’t any screws at all as the PCB slides into the drive chassis. The top has a silver OCZ sticker and all the relevant information is on the bottom side sticker as we’re used to from OCZ.

We didn’t see the fastest drive on the block nor did the TRION 100 break any records. It still performed great and placed itself in the top range of the comparison charts. When you take the drive price into consideration then the picture changes. You get a lot of performance for your pennies. There really isn’t much to think about with the TRION 100. Just get one for your next workstation or replace that old mechanical HDD in your notebook for some more performance, you won’t regret it.

The speed was good, but we did see a slight degrade after the conditioning, especially in the synthetic benchmarks. A run-over with the optimization feature or a secure erase will also bring back some performance again and make the drive feel like it was new. However, the more real-world directed tests actually showed an improvement over the fresh drive.

I am really fond of OCZ’s ShieldPlus warranty – it is the way warranty should be, without hassle and trouble. You get a tree-year ShieldPlus warranty with the TRION 100, making it a very safe bet.

Pros

  • Good Performance
  • Cheap
  • ShieldPlus Warranty: 3-years
  • DevSleep, SMART, and TRIM

Cons

  • No accessories
  • Slight performance degradation after conditioning.

“You’ll have a hard time finding a better drive for the same money. The OCZ TRION 100 performs solid and is backed by the best warranty in the market.”

Bang-For-Buck
