Usually reserved for other brands including the flagship Vertex 3, OCZ’s Agility 3 has mostly been kept to lower capacities with its price-performance target. However two new variants have hit the Jappanese market recently; the 180 GB (AGT3-25SAT3-180G) and a 360 GB variant (AGT3-25SAT3-360G).
Aside from the async NAND flash memory you find on the Agility 3, the Vertex 3 uses the same controller, a SandForce SF-2281, hence the good performance found on the Agility 3 drives. The reduced price is what makes it a good drive as its price-performance ratio is increased.
The new variants keep the same good performance ‘pedigree’, so to speak, with the 180GB offering sequential speeds of up to 525 MB/s read and 500 MB/s write with 35,000 IOPS 4K random write performance. The 360GB model is right there, very slightly behind, with sequential speeds of 525 MB/s read, 495 MB/s write, and 35,000 IOPS 4K random write performance.
These drives keep a 2.5″ form factor and the SATA 6Gbps interface found on the Agility 3 series.
These new models are currently selling in the Japanese market with the Agility 3 180GB priced at ¥19,000 (£149) and the 360GB variant at ¥36,000 (£282).
