Official AMD Radeon RX Vega Press Photos Released

AMD is currently holding a major announcement in California to finally unveil their Radeon RX Vega video card. At the same time, there are information leaking out and with it are some official information as well, including a set of official product photos of the new card. Credit goes to Legit Reviews who is first to break this news a few minutes ago. What makes this photo set much more interesting than previous releases is that it shows what is underneath the shroud as well.

AMD Radeon RX Vega: Single-slot water-cooling Ready

The air-cooler version of the Radeon RX Vega uses the standard blower style fan towards the front. What is interesting however is that all the display outputs are just right at the bottom. This means it can easily be a single-slot solution with the right water-block. The display-outputs include a full-size HDMI and three DisplayPorts. Above these is the ventilation area with horizontal exhaust channels rather than the standard vertical design.

Towards the front side, the Radeon RX Vega has two 8-pin PCIe power connectors. The front area is completely shut off so that the exhaust is entirely moving towards the back.

Extra Space for Better VRM with HBM2

Another photo reveals the PCB view without the shroud or the heatsink. The most obvious improvement over standard GDDR5 video cards is the use of HBM2 memory. This is stacked right on the GPU so the extra space is utilized for a better VRM by AMD instead. AMD typically has the superior VRM design even on their reference models compared to NVIDIA to begin with, even on lower-end models so this is not a surprise. A metal interposer plate and an aluminum heatsink cools these on-board components as well. Two stacks of HBM2 memory are visible and the TDP is estimated to be around 300 to 375W.
