Official Release Date for Doomfist in Overwatch Confirmed

After hitting the PC public test servers a little over a month ago, we finally have confirmation on Doomfist. This will be the formal official release of the character. For console owners, this will represent their first opportunity to access the much hyped villian.

Doomfist – Oh yes!

Since the official launch of Overwatch, Doomfist is not the first new addition. He is though, for a reason I can’t fathom, certainly the most anticipated. Representing the 3rd new character added to the official roster, Doomfist has been discussed for a long time. Much longer than you would usually expect. With Blizzard only officially confirming his existance last month, we have been teased and speculation has arisen about his existance since earlier in the year.

The official release on July 27th is going to see the polished Doomfist in action. We of course reported this when we heard of the initial release confirmation, but even so, that shadows one of the biggest rumours to have ever dogged this character.

TERRY CREWS HYPE TRAIN!!!

Most of the hype surrounding Doomfist was regarding the massive pressure for former American football star turned actor, Terry Crews, to voice the roll. The man himself even lobbied for the role, although how seriously he took it is a little  questionable. Unfortunately, all the rumours turned out to be exactly that. Terry Crews is catagorically not voicing the character and in the confirmation announcement for Doomfist, via NextPowerUp, that hasn’t changed. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news if you were still riding this train.

Having played on the PTR myself, the testing was well worth it. The character did need a little balancing. Overall, balancing nearly always needs to be done on new additions to games and the last thing Blizzard would want to do is disrupt what is, in Overwatch, an excellently balanced roster, that being said, Doomfist is set to officially smash his way into Overwatch for PC and Console on July 27th.
