I’m a huge fan of One Piece, and after 4 years of effort (on and off), I’m very nearly caught up with the anime series which currently has over 1,000 episodes! – When One Piece Odyssey was confirmed earlier this year, therefore, I think it goes without saying that this one had my attention. – Not that it didn’t come without a little scepticism, however. If you think game-to-film adaptations have a rough time of it, then anime/manga to games are not (generally speaking) honestly that much better!
I’m not going to lie though, I’m looking at this from a glass-half-full perspective in that, one day, One Piece might finally get the gaming release it truly deserves. – Why am I even mentioning it here though? Well, following the launch of a new trailer (and update to Steam), we don’t just have an official release date for One Piece Odyssey, but we also have confirmed PC requirements!
Based on the new trailer, it appears that One Piece Odyssey will form a kind of action RPG with our Straw Hat pirates being stuck on an island. In a plot aspect that will clearly build into some kind of unlocking mechanic, your crew has lost their powers and must fight to get them back. – A little cliche maybe, but with an original story coming from One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda, it does at least give fans some hope that we’re going to have a fun new adventure here!
What about the system requirements though? Well, the good news is that, by and large, most people with even mildly modern/relevant hardware shouldn’t have too much difficult in getting this to run. I’m not going to lie, it’s still more than a little pleasant to see a Ryzen 3 3100 and Nvidia 1060 mentioned in ‘recommended’.
Set for release on January 13th, the only moderate downside is that the current pre-order price listed on Steam (for the basic version) is a rather whopping £49.99. Alas though, this isn’t overly surprising not just based on modern gaming price standards, but more so, games which have roots in anime/manga series do typically tend to cost a lot (I have no idea why. Maybe it’s something to do with licensing).
If you do, however, want to learn more, you can check out the official Steam One Piece Odyseey website via the link here! (A release is also planned for PlayStation and Xbox – Sorry though, no Switch announcement yet it seems!).
