OnePlus has unveiled a rather cryptic Google+ post entitled, “a bit of welcome luxury”. Additionally, the caption says “something luxurious is coming to OnePlus” which could refer to a leather back cover. According to the comments section, people are a little underwhelmed by the OnePlus 2 and feel it doesn’t live up to the “flagship killer” name. Perhaps, the lack of Near-Field-Communication and Cyanogen operating system has aggrieved OnePlus’ core customer base.
Also, there are valid alternatives in the current market including the Hauwei Honor 7. This is a beautifully crafted device featuring 3GB RAM, 3100mAh battery, 1920×1080 display and a 3-year warranty. The original OnePlus made a profound impact as other Chinese handsets under $300 couldn’t match the device’s specifications and build quality. This isn’t the case anymore, and OnePlus is under severe pressure to match the price to performance ratio of other devices. Also, the invite system has infuriated a lot of users and led to loss sales. Mobile phones are an essential everyday item, so expecting people to wait months to purchase the handset is extremely silly.
Hopefully, OnePlus has taken this feedback on board and trying to enhance the handset’s appeal. If they included a luxury leather back by default, it would make it feel similar to the LG G4.
