Overclockers UK Ultima 10.1″ IPS Android 4.1 Tablet Review

Overall I really enjoyed using the Ultima, so much so in fact that I have gotten one for my self. I had the opportunity to truly road test this device and it managed to get me through the rigors of our trip to Las Vegas for CES 2013. Having a slim and portable device with my at all times was many times easier than lugging around my laptop and the Ultima provided me with a way to keep track of all my appointments, take notes, check Face Book, Skype call home and even enjoy a games and movies on the 10 hour flight home.

When I first saw the Ultimate I honestly wasn’t expecting much from it, I didn’t know how much it cost, I didn’t even know its specification, I just got to spend two weeks in Vegas using it day in day out and after the two weeks it didn’t matter what specification it had, simply because it had managed to do everything I asked it to with ease.

OK so that sounds a little much but this really is a plucky little device and while it isn’t perfect it offers an awesome amount of performance compared to its price tag. Even the more demanding gaming titles in the Android Play Store such as Grand Theft Auto 3, Royal Revolt and Dead Trigger ran smooth as silk without putting too much demand on the battery life.

On a full charge the tablet will give you around 6 hours of non stop gaming and tinkering time, I have gotten that up to 8 with the back light off but even still the screen is clear to read at that level so long as your not in a brightly lit area. I also like the fact I can charge the device from the mains thanks to the included adaptor but it can just as easily charge from the USB cable. When the device is on standby the battery is happy to hold charge for a few days without going flat, meaning its always there to be instantly used when you need it.

In all honestly though the tablet has taken a side stop from its Vegas adventures and it now lives at the side of my couch, its a great little gadget for kicking back and playing games on when I don’t want to be sat at the PC and lets be honest even most of the people that spend a lot more money on an iPad 3 still only sit on their couch checking Face Book with it anyway! So save your self a fortune because if you don’t need 3G and only want something to play a few games on, browse the web and from time to time maybe use iPlayer or watch a few movies then the Ultimate could be ideal for you.

As a child still in my 30's (but not for long), I spend my day combining my love of music and movies with a life-long passion for gaming, from arcade classics and retro consoles to the latest high-end PC and console games. So it's no wonder I write about tech and test the latest hardware while I enjoy my hobbies!
