Overwatch Introduces New In-Game Currency for League Skins

Overwatch is adding more skins within the next two months, especially with the Winter season coming. However, not all of them will be available for free via loot boxes. Instead, it will only be available with a new in-game currency called League Tokens which are purchased with real world money. Unlike the existing in-game currency, this one is for specifically purchasing the new Overwatch League team skins. This will allow Blizzard to easily keep track of which money goes for which, since 50% of the sale will go directly to a shared pool for all teams.

According to the LEague Commissioner Nate Nanzer, the League skins are basically the virtual equivalent of wearing favourite team jerseys in-game. Not only does it show support for one’s favorite Overwatch League team, it is also an interesting alternate color option for all characters. Even if you don’t follow eSports. There are 26 characters in the game and 12 teams in the League. So that totals to 312 skin options. Some team colours are more interesting than others, which is why the need for a shared pool.  The Seoul Dynasty’s black and gold colours for example, look incredible even for those who don’t follow the team. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Gladiators with their purple colour is not the most visually appealing. Although these skins are for sale, Blizzard is actually offering one for free to all users when the system launches in 2018.
