Ozone Onda Pro X-Surround Pro Gaming Headset Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The Ozone Onda Pro X-Surround is available from Overclockers.co.uk for £66.95 here in the UK. This puts it right along side some tough competition from the Roccat Kave 5.1 and the Steel Series Siberia V2, both incredible headsets that have been well-tried and tested by the gaming community. The Onda is competitive and does offer similar performance, but it’s really a matter of preference rather than which is “best” for this kind of money.

Overview

Continuing on from what I just said about price, the Onda really is entering a fiercely competitive sector of the market, and its doing it at one of the most competitive price ranges. It’s hard to find a bad headset around £60, especially when you’re sticking to the big brand names such as Razer, MadCatz, Logitech, Corsair, Cooler Master, Steelseries, Roccat, Thermaltake and a few others. They’ve all got award-winning products, so it’s really about looking at the pros and cons of each and finding the one most suitable to your needs and style preferences.

The Onda Pro X-Surround has a lot going for it, the sound quality is superb and crystal clear at any volume, but its real winning point is the microphone. Microphones are often unremarkable, very similar specification bits of hardware on low to mid budget gaming headsets, but the Onda’s stood out as being a clearer than most, with some really good noise cancellation which is perfect if you’re planning on using team chat in a busy environment such as a LAN event. It’s also incredibly comfortable to wear over long periods of time, something that will no doubt reap its own rewards after a long gaming session. Build quality is top-notch and the finish of the plastics looks stunning, so there is no doubt that you’ll wear it with pride.

Pros

  • Flawless sound quality
  • Crystal clear microphone
  • High quality construction
  • Comfortable fit
  • Detachable microphone
  • Stylish design
  • Plug-and-play ready

Cons

  • Semi-open ear-cups leak sound
  • “X-Surround” seems misleading as this is a typically stereo headset

“If you’re on the market for a headset in this price range, I certainly recommend you have the Onda on your top five list. It’s more than worthy of our Gamers Choice Award, but which headset will be your number 1 at this price range is mostly going to be based on aesthetics, as performance from competing brands is easily on par with what Ozone have to offer.”
