I’ve not followed the Pokémon franchise close but i’m more than aware that the fans are a bit bored of the lack of innovation and care the franchise has with its latest releases. This makes it quite understandable when a game that takes Pokémon’s idea, glues some guns and slavery to it and then releases it to the masses, manages to become the most played game in the world and top selling.
Palworld has taken gamers by storm due to a desire to see a Pokemon, sorry Pals, shooting guns at each other and being forced to work in factories. It’s a form of innovation that the Pokemon series has not seen in many years having grown stagnant especially with its most recent releases. Looking at SteamDB we can see the game dominating the charts with 1.2 million players holding strong over the titan that is Counter Strike 2.
I don’t think the devs ever expected this much of a response to the game and I imagine that if Pokémon wasn’t in the state it is now, it wouldn’t be doing anywhere near as well as this. I mean we can all see that many of the “Pals” are just slightly altered versions of existing Pokémon that may have had something to do with AI. Either way, hopefully Game Freak see this and up their game, literally.
I quite like the idea of a dark side to the genre which this game seems to hit quite well, maybe I’ll consider grabbing it.
