Panasonic comes out with another Toughbook

Panasonic, a manufacturer of a wide variety of products, have unveiled today their new Panasonic Toughbook S10, a new mobile addition to their series.

This may not look like much, but it is much. Powered by an Intel Core i5-2520M vPro processor, the Toughbook S10 can last up to 12.5 hours of standard battery, the longest you’ll ever see in this mobile class. Speaking of mobile, this thing weighs a shy 3.0 pounds, making this the premium choice for on-the-road workers.

This small piece of hardware is able to withstand drops, bumps and spill. Thanks to its magnesium alloy case and some other piece of ingenuity, this notebook can handle a drop of 30” to the base while operating, and it’s spill resistant keyboard protects against spills up to six ounces (about 200 cubic centimeters).

This really has been designed with mobility as a priority, yet Panasonic hasn’t let the other aspects of computer on the side, it still has everything you would expect from a notebook, and then some.

The Toughbook S10 is also fitted with both USB 3.0 and 2.0, as well as VGA and HDMI outputs and the latest SD card reader which will allow for faster transfer time. And if you’re in a more “dangerous” business, a fingerprint reader can be added, thus securing your data better.

But there’s more, Panasonic has also fitted a DVD reader, which isn’t very common, and while taking space, this notebook doesn’t seem to mind really, for as you can see it is very capable.

A rather unusual place for a DVD reader.

Now another feature is connectivity, since when you’re on the move you can’t always carry your router or modem with you, so in addition to the to the Ethernet, Wi-fi and Bluetooth, there is an optional Gobi 2000 3G mobile broadband from Qualcomm.

I will agree that this isn’t the best looking computer, but keep in mind that this thing is in no way supposed to win a beauty contest. Place it in a mobility contest, and this one will present a challenge.
