We all had one, some of us still do, but it’s time to dust off your Sega Mega Drive, there’s a NEW game coming, almost 30 years after the console was first released! Paprium will take us back to when gaming was simple, addictive and fun, everything it should be without the constant arguments over FPS and how much Call of Duty sucks.
After being in development for 4 years, Watermelon Games are finally ready to release the title. The game takes us back to 16 bit gaming, but unlike all of those awful indy games that have flooded Steam over the years, this is a true 16 bit game.
The announcement video is…let’s just say, interesting? I won’t give too much away, it needs to be seen. However what I will say, is that as soon as the gameplay footage started, I was instantly taken back to my Mega Drive days playing Streets of Rage. It looks as though it will be a good old fashioned ‘walk around and smash things up’ game.
The cartridge is 80Mb, features 24 levels with 5 playable characters. The game is 1 or 2 player and has multiple games modes and 3 save slots. It is available to pre-order now, and after a bit of searching, it seems the next available date they have pencilled in, is the 16/09/2017, a bit of a wait, but that’s to be expected.
It seems this game has been created by a group of people with a massive love of 16 bit gaming, and I think it’s great they’ve used an actual 16 bit platform to release it on, 16 bit games just don’t feel the same unless they’re the real hardware that was designed to run it.
Watermelon games state that this is a post-apocalyptic, outrageous brawler game, and is the biggest game ever made for the Sega Mega Drive (or Genesis). Here’s the video, take a look!
Head over to their website and check it out, you can pre-order and check pricing, which edition, and the availability there.
