Patriot Gauntlet 320GB Wireless Hard Drive Review

Due to the nature of this drive with its portable wireless capabilities, we don’t expect to see a slim compact drive by any means. After all, Patriot need to squeeze a battery and wireless gear into the case as well as the drive itself. The case on the top and bottom is a flat black colour with the edge wrapped in a glossy black trim. The unit feels solid and robust which is critical for something that is going to be on the move quite a lot getting chucked into a rucksack or similar over and over.
Three LEDs occupy the top right corner of the upper face with lights to indicate battery status, wireless status and activity and power/ disk status.
To one end of the drive we find as USB Micro-B port, power button and DC jack for charging the internal battery. The drive can also be bus powered over the USB3.0 interface, however the DC jack is required for battery charging.
One feature that we find quite handy is a battery status checker that indicates remaining charge via four LEDs that light up when the button beside is pressed.
On the underside the drive features the same flat black plastic cover with a label in the middle noting product and serial numbers as well as the Gauntlet’s MAC address for wireless connectivity.
