Conclusion

The Patriot Ignite 480GB SSD is the first Patriot drive that I’ve had between my hands in quite a while and I have to say right from the start, I like what I saw. So let’s dive right into it. We saw a great performance from the Ignite and while it didn’t top out any of our charts, the differences to the top are minor. The drive easily lived up to the rated performance and most importantly, it kept the performance up the entire time. There is no fun in a solid state drive that degrades in performance quickly. There was basically no difference between the tests of the fresh drive and after the conditioning with over 10TB of data; it kept performing and we like that.

Feature wise it has all the basics that you’ll want from a desktop drive. We got TRIM support which naturally is OS dependent, but that’s not as big an issue as it used to be. All major operating systems now support it fully and you shouldn’t run into too much trouble in that regards. We also get end-to-end data path protection (ETEP), advanced wear-leveling, advanced garbage collection, smart ECC, Smart Refresh, and NCQ up to 32 commands. One thing that’s missing, and that’s why I said desktop drive, is the DevSLEEP that is great for mobile users where every bit of wattage in the battery counts. That said, no SSD consumes a lot of power and it wouldn’t be bad in any mobile system either. It fits well with its 7mm height form factor.

The design is very simple and the black casing should make it fit well with most systems. The casing is a snap-case that doesn’t use any screws at all, but it’s far more durable that what I’ve seen from other manufacturers in that regards and it wasn’t as easy to open either. A solid build quality is something we like to see too.
