Patriot Introduces Viper LED DDR4 Memory Kits
Ron Perillo / 7 years ago
Patriot‘s Viper DDR4 memory modules with LED lighting is finally here. The prototype has been in tradeshows as early as CES 2017 in January and at Computex 2017 in June. It is available in red LED or white LED variant with diffuser built in, creating an even smooth lighting. The Viper LED DRAM uses an aluminium heatspreader in black with gray accents. This is so that it would match most systems and remain neutral without clashing. Aluminium is also lightweight and an excellent material for heat dissipation. Not that these modules run hot since DDR4 uses less voltage than DDR3, even with the LED lighting. The lighting itself draws power directly from the bus, and has no wires sticking out.
Patriot Viper DDR4 Performance
The memory kit is available in dual-channel configuration for Intel 100, 200 and 300 chipset series, as well as AMD’s Ryzen platform. The red LED version of is available from 2400MHz CL14 @ 1.2V to 3000MHz CL15 @ 1.35V. There is only a single 8GB (2x4GB) kit and that is the 3000MHz model. The other three are 16GB (2x8GB) kits. The white LED version is available with higher frequency options. While it also has a 2400MHz CL14 @ 1.2V kit available, users can also get it in 3200MHz and 3600MHz CL16 @ 1.35V kits.
Like all of Patriot’s memory modules, these can easily load the overclocked profile preset via XMP 2.0. It also comes with a limited lifetime warranty.
Pricing and Availability
The memory kits are now available from Amazon or NewEgg.com, ranging from $134.99 to $249.99.
