To get straight to the point about this kit, all I have to say really is wow! Limited Edition products sometimes are only that because they’ve got some specific detail about them that is unique about them that doesn’t necessarily reflect the item as a whole and even sometimes are only there to try and push sales of the product. For this memory kit however, this is not the case. Patriot have taken an already great product and changed the colour scheme of the modules purely to feature in Intel’s Extreme Masters championships and if it’s worthy of Intel giving that branding, then it must be worth the status of ‘Limited Edition’ surely?
On the front of overclocking, granted we didn’t see a huge rise in clock speeds, but what has to be taken into consideration is that we don’t add performance cooling to the modules and we do not play with the voltage either. Sure if I was to give a little extra power to the modules then I would be able to squeeze a bit more out of them, but with memory this doesn’t always result in the most stable of solutions.
For what we did achieve though, its clear that it has had a substantial impact on the bandwidth available with huge gains from only a slight clock increase. We even found that when allowed to alter the timings on its own, our ROG motherboard was even able to tighten the timings a little at the highest speed we found. This can only go to show how well the hand testing has done and that each kit gets the right seal of approval.
In terms of the pricing, this particular kit sits right in there amidst other similar kits of size and speed at around £50 at the time of publishing. Don’t fear though as there is a whole range of kits to suit different tastes with both dual and quad channel kits available with capacities ranging from 8GB to 32GB and speeds of up to 2133MHz. To top all that off, the standard Viper 3 comes in black red and green as well, to suit all system colour schemes.
Bottom line, this Limited Edition product has all the marks of a high quality kit and should be snapped up before its limited supplies run out.
