How Much Does it Cost?
The Patriot Viper V760 RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard retails for around £99, which is an absolute bargain. OK, so it’s still around £100 for a keyboard, which is a lot of money, but spec for spec, that’s pretty competitive or a keyboard of this calibre. It’s also about £25 cheaper than the Viper V770, which does have RGB wrist rest and dedicated multimedia controls, but both have comparable performance overall.
Overview
It seems Patriot can do no wrong with their Viper series right now. Time and time again they’re releasing better and better products, and they’re doing it at prices that are undercutting their biggest rivals. That’s the kind of thing that gets my attention, and I’m sure it does for many of our readers too.
Build Quality
At this price range, the inclusion of aluminium construction is very welcome. Not only does it give the keyboard fantastic strength and stability, it also looks gorgeous. There is some plastic and rubber trim here and there, but again, their fit and finish are on point throughout. I would have prefered a detachable USB cable, I always do, but the one here is pretty durable and nicely braided. Furthermore, even the USB headers are gold-plated, they don’t need to be, but it looks good.
RGB
The lighting engine used by Patriot is fantastic, as it doesn’t rely on the desktop software at all. Sure, you can use the software to really dive into the customisation options. However, most people will be happy with the extensive on-keyboard controls as they’re incredibly easy to use on the fly. Dial in your favourite colours and effects, or even just turn the lights off altogether while watching a movie, it’s up to you.
More Control
The keyboard lacks dedicated multimedia controls like its big brother; the Viper V770. However, the inclusion of volume and media control functions via Fn-Shift is very welcome. If you like to listen to music while playing games, it means you no longer have to tab to your desktop to skip tracks, something that’s really handy for online gaming.
Should I Buy One?
At just £99.99, it’s one of the better value for money high-end keyboards on the market today. Yes, it’s still a lot of money, but high-end mechanical keyboards aren’t known for being cheap. You do get an awful lot for your money though. I think Patriot have gone the extra mile for build quality, lighting, and aesthetics. Overall, it’s an extremely competitive keyboard, and you would be mad not to at least consider it when shopping in this price range.
