The Patriot Viper V770 RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard is available now from most major retailers for around £120. I’ve seen it listed for £110 and up to £130, and think that’s a pretty amazing price for what you get. I Corsair K95 features almost the same level of features, yet costs significantly more, making the Viper great value for money.
Once again, Patriot has knocked it out of the park with their latest Viper keyboard. When they first started making peripherals, they were pretty darn competitive in the mid-budget market. However, they’re out for blood in the big leagues with the V770, and it’s paid off big time. The V770 has all the features and flagship performance one would expect from a £100+ keyboard, and it’ll keep up with the best in the business. Does it perform better than Corsair, Razer, or whoever else? Not really, but again, it’ll run alongside them just fine. Where Patriot gain their edge is by being around £50 cheaper than other flagship models, while not actually being of any lower quality.
The latest generation of RGB switches for Kailh is fantastic and easily as good as anything from other brands. Heck, there’s a reason they’re the people that make Razer and SteelSeries switches for them. The feel of the keys isn’t just in the switch though, and the inclusion of quality keycaps, and a sturdy aluminium chassis, all create a fast and responsive feeling keyboard here. Thick braided cables, magnetically detachable wrist rest with RGB lighting, it all adds up. Even the toggle switches on the multimedia controls feel better engineered than they needed to be.
This keyboard looks great, I’ll be damned if anyone thinks otherwise. OK, looks are subjective, but what’s not to love about brushed aluminium and gun-metal like textures and finishes? It looks and feels like a premium quality product, and that’s exactly what Patriot needed to compete.
Honestly, it’s one of the best value keyboards on the market right now. Yes, I know it costs over £100, I never said it was cheap. However, compared to similarly equipped keyboards from other big names on the market, it’s a lot cheaper than those it competes with. Despite being cheaper, the build quality, features, and the performance haven’t been compromised. Highly recommended.
