How Much Does It Cost?

As the kit is not out yet, we’ve reached out to get exact pricing. Luckily other 6200MHz kits are available to buy right now, so at least we have something to compare to and to gauge some kind of an idea on. Obviously being DDR5, it still demands a premium and I would expect it to be priced around the £380/$420 mark, especially as it’s not only a fast premium DDR5 kit, but it also has RGB, which generally bumps the price up by around £10/$10 or £20/$20. Yes, it sounds expensive, but this is the fastest you can get on the market, right now.

Overview

I like the Patriot Viper Gaming range of products. They do things a bit differently in terms of their styling and design, and while it’s not going to be loved by everyone, it’s always nice seeing something quirky when it comes to branding. The Venom range doesn’t just look great but means business too, with its blistering fast 6200MHz speeds and large capacity. I remember when 16GB was the norm for the average PC gamer, but with titles becoming more and more demanding, it seems 32GB is going to become the new gold standard and that obviously comes at a premium too.

6200MHz is FAST and that was evident in our testing as it beat out the competition and it was some stiff competition at that, with the likes of Corsair’s Dominator Platinum kit, which is generally regarded as some of the best memory on the market, and this made it look weak. Now I know, we’re kind of comparing apples to oranges here with a 5200MHz kit vs a 6200MHz kit, and maybe in the future we have a bit of a head to head with a faster Corsair kit.

The speed doesn’t just stop there though, as this overclocked like it had a rocket propelling it. I expected to see a bit of a jump in terms of frequency, but I never expected to see 6666MHz. This is a speed that a few years ago was reserved for pro LN2 overclockers, and now it’s a reality for the average, if not slightly wealthy gamer and that’s exactly what we as gamers need. Faster frequencies on memory. This is the only way us, as consumers will bother upgrading, especially as it’s only a choice for those wanting an Intel platform. I honestly believe that when AMD’s new AM5 platform releases, we’ll see prices drop, speeds increase and the adoption rate go up, but we’re still a few months off of that right now.

Should I Buy One?

It’s a tough one, as if you’re looking at an Alder Lake system, and going DDR5 and have the money, then yes, you’d be stupid not to as it offers a lot more over a typical DDR4 system, which was the big sticking point before, but and it’s a big but. If you’re not wanting to be at the forefront of PC gaming hardware and money is tight, then it’s probably not the wisest choice, just yet, but that’s not to say it won’t be in the next couple of months. If you’re wanting the very fastest kit, that not only performs great but looks great as well, then yes, the Viper Gaming Venom kit is simply amazing!
