PC World reports of a bug on Windows 8.1 that is affecting the mouse input, something particularly noticeable when gaming. The issue causes “mouse control” problems including jittering (where the cursor jumps back and forth), scale disparity (where the distance moved on the screen isn’t reflective of the distance moved with the mouse) and inadequate mouse polling frequency (which affects the input time of mouse actions).
Microsoft has already responded to the problem on its forums. Apparently Microsoft recognises the problem and is working on a fix, but doesn’t have an exact date for that fix.
“First off, we want to thank our gaming community for the detailed feedback many of you have provided on these issues. While we don’t have a date yet for the release of a fix, we are working to get these issues resolved as quickly as possible,” wrote a Microsoft forum moderator identified as Naman R.
The problems apparently vary depending on the mouse type and the game being played. For some people changing the mouse input to raw in-game has fixed the problem but for others it hasn’t, if you are experiencing these problems and “can wait” then it is recommended that you wait for an official fix from Microsoft. If you cannot wait then you are advised to check the forum discussions here and here to see if you can find a fix for your own specific problems. If you cannot find a fix from those threads then changing your OS (to Windows 8, Windows 7 or another OS) or changing your mouse may other possible solutions to consider.
