Annual PC Games Sales Increased By 8% Despite Low PC Sales

According to a report published by DFC analyst David Cole in PC Gaming Alliance report, it shows that there has been a strong increase of 8% last year with PC games, despite low demand for PC desktop and fierce competition in mobile and social networking games. PCGA also said that the PC gaming market has grown up to 90% ever since 2008 when their first report was published. This is because according to the report, gamers have shifted their attention from traditional desktop sets to high end gaming notebooks or desktop replacement units.

Cole also noted that the growth is shown in countries such as South Korea, Japan, U.S., U.K. and Germany where PC is the leading platform for well-known high end titles, possibly because as investing in consoles is more expensive in these areas. The Chinese market is where consoles are difficult to be purchased as the Ministry of Culture ban their sales in China and its been noted that the Chinese import duties will raise the price of consoles, therefore even raising the cost of imported games for the consoles themselves, which obviously effects sales greatly.

Out of one billion PC gamers around the world where its estimated spending is $20 Million in total, 250 Million are estimated to play Strategy, MMORPG such as World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria and Diablo III & action titles.

Despite the increase in mobile gaming due to high demand and sales of smartphones and tablets, its been said that it is helping the PC business as it creates opportunities for cross-platform titles for many small time self funded game developers which go viral, such as the first “Slender” game which went viral around the world. That created a way for the game studio to come up with a sequel most likely as a cross-platform title.
