PC Gaming – Then and Now

So there we have it, gaming has obviously changed a lot over the last ten years, everything from graphics and sounds to system requirements have all been increased and pushed to their limits time and time again.

But when you really look at games that have been around sequel after sequel over that time period, very little of the core games have really changed, Need for Speed still plays and feels the same, Elder Scrolls may look a million years apart from Morrowind but the core game isn’t all that different from previous titles, the big stand out is how far the FPS genre has come, Battlefield 3 makes BF: 1942 look like it really was released in 1942.

The only thing I have to wonder is, how different will games be in another ten years, will we be playing Need for Speed 28, Elder Scrolls VIII and Battlefield 10?  its fairly likely we will, but no one can be certain, graphics are certain to improve to a point, but its going to take some serious innovation of the gaming industry for gameplay to really change much more than it has over the last decade.
