How Much Does it Cost?

The PCSpecialist IONICO LUNA PRO is pretty reasonably priced, and competitively too, coming in at just £1082.50 for the specifications we’re reviewing today. That’s really not bad, and not all that different from the retail price of a somewhat equivalent desktop system too. That price gets you the potent AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS and the Nvidia RTX 4060, giving you a good combination of red team and green team power. Plus, this is paired up with a 240Hz refresh rate display, and while you won’t be pushing that in the most demanding AAA games at max settings, it’s going to do just fine in a lot of less demanding eSports titles, giving you that performance edge.

I had a little tinker with their configurator, and unfortunately, while it does list a 120Hz QHD or 240Hz display option listed, I could not select the cheaper 120Hz option, so hopefully they resolve this issue soon as I’m sure some people will want that option if it is a fair bit cheaper than the 240Hz panel I have.

Furthermore, while the price was £1082.50, if you strip away the Windows 11 and recovery media, you can drop that price quite a bit. I took Windows off, as I can do that myself a fair bit cheaper, and upgraded to their 3-Year Gold warranty, which comes with 2-year collect and returns, 2-years parts, and 3-years labour for just an extra £69, and best of all, this configuration still came in cheaper at just £1058.33. If you’re happy with the standard warranty, which was 6 months collection and return, 1-year parts, and 3 years labour, then you can get the price down to just £1000.83.

Conclusion

When it comes to the build quality and design, I think the IONICO LUNA PRO can hold up against any of the major competition. They haven’t gone out of their way to make this laptop look too “gamer” and I’m very happy about that. I don’t want RGB on the back of the screen and other obnoxious design elements in my laptop. I could put this on the desk in a meeting, use it for work, and it wouldn’t look out of place.

However, I could pull it out at a LAN gaming night at a friend’s house, and still, I don’t think it would look out of place there either. The creamy white colour looks clean and tidy, but also nice and stylish. However, there is one downside, as it will be prone to grubby marks, so perhaps don’t eat cheesy Doritos while gaming or you’ll end up with an orange keyboard.

Gaming laptops do have their compromises though, and if you have owned or used one, you’ll be well aware of them. However, if you haven’t, then keep in mind that they can be a bit on the noisy side. Gaming means you get noticeable fan noise, and while the IONICO is far from the worst offender, the fan noise can ruin the gaming experience, so as with any gaming laptop, I suggest you wear headphones while gaming.

Additionally, they do tend to run hotter than their desktop counterparts, largely due to the differences in cooling hardware, but again, this is to be expected. Overall I’d say the Ionico handed everything smoothly and the cooling solution is pretty fantastic, resulting in great overall system performance while gaming, and running whisper-quiet in day-to-day usage on YouTube, Reddit or on the rare occasion I actually do some work.

The RTX 4060 may not be the most potent mobile GPU, but it’s hardly lacking either, and a very competent gaming GPU overall that’s relatively easy to keep cool and is power efficient. Obviously, not quite as potent as its desktop equivalent, but it still packs a punch, and the added benefit of some Ray Tracing and DLSS certainly sweetens the deal here too. I like the Ryzen 7 CPU too, it’s a potent 8-core 16-thread processor, that’s going to cope well with gaming, multi-tasking, and more demanding workloads such as rendering video.

Battery life is competitive, and when I did a power test running F1 2023 with maxed-out graphics on an endless loop, I got 1 hour and 20 minutes, which may not sound like a lot of time, but that is when maxing out the laptop completely. More reserved settings would of course extend that time quite significantly.

Should I Buy One?

Overall, a very clean and tidy-looking laptop, that despite being fairly light and compact, it packs a mighty punch for daily work tasks, rendering, and for gaming, making it a competitive all-rounder that I would be more than happy to own myself. The price is very competitive, and it’s backed up by three warranty options, which add great peace of mind for any PCSpecialist customers. Highly recommended!
