I’ll admit that I was a bit skeptic when I first heard about a Pepsi smartphone, but it looks like the company will actually be licensing its brand name for a relatively cheap smartphone that’s set to be launched in China. The Pepsi P1 will feature a 5.5-inch 1080p screen, a 1.7GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera, and a 3,000 mAh battery. These specs are pretty much standard for Android phones nowadays, but the interesting thing is that this offering will actually be sold for just 1,299 yuan or about $205, which is quite a bargain. The smartphone will face some serious competition in China even with this price tag, as cheap phones are abundant in this particular country.
Still, flaunting the logo of one of the world’s most famous brands will definitely help quite a bit, even though there’s no word on who exactly will be manufacturing this smartphone. Using a popular brand to boost the popularity of a standard product is a move that’s been used quite a few times before, and it hasn’t always been successful. We’ll just have to wait and see how things will turn out for the Pepsi smartphone.
If the Pepsi P1 would somehow make its way into your country, would you purchase one?
