It’s been less than 11 months since the release of Capture One Pro 9 and Phase One, the well-known Medium Format digital cameras manufacturer released its new version of their all-in-one photography software, Capture One Pro 10. Since Capture One Pro 9, Phase One focused on enhancing the whole User Experience of their application. They made several performance optimisation enhancements, speeding up the photo retouching process. Most importantly the “library view”, used to preview and select which photos we’ll edit or just export became much faster when scrolling through the images regardless of the zoom. The workspace has seen its “user experience optimisation” too.
Capture One Pro 10 is supposed to be a huge leap forward in every single aspect of “User Experience”. Navigating your catalogue is ultra smooth now, switching through images happens instantly now! They default workspace has been redesigned and optimised to provide a more user-friendly and intuitive workflow, the image adjusting, panning and zooming features have been optimised and are now much faster. There are new features like “Diffraction Correction” (compensating for the loss of sharpness due to the “Diffraction phenomenon” which occurs whenever you shoot with a small aperture), new tools to control “Halo” introduced by sharpening, a new one-click Proofing to eliminate the “guess-work” out of resizing images, focus control over tethering, support for Tangent Panels, various enhancements in the “Cataloguing” part, extended sensor and file-type support for the AutoMask functionality, and much more!
As usual there’s new camera support added, bugfixes, some new filtering options (like searching/filtering via the orientation of the images), stripe reduction LCC for 100MP camera backs, new lens profiles, optimisations in JPEG output, etc.
Capture One Pro 10 is available on Windows and Mac (Linux gets no love sadly), and you can download a free 30-day trial here.
As for owners of Capture One Pro 9, Phase One is being… pretty reasonable and is giving COP 10 for free to everyone who purchased Capture One Pro 9 after November 1 2016, and for the rest owners of COP9 and COP8 they are offering a license upgrade for just $99.
Subscription users get the latest version free of charge of course.
