How Much Does it Cost?
The Philips Evnia 27M2C5501 is available on Amazon for just £199.97, and honestly, sitting this side of reviewing it, I can’t figure out how it’s so cheap! All this tech and performance for less than two hundred quid? That’s just too good to pass up, I can’t recommend it enough at this price.
Overview
The Philips Evnia 27M2C5501 is a strong contender in the mid-range gaming monitor market. It offers a compelling combination of features, performance, and design at a competitive price point. To be honest, it’s only the price putting it in the mid-range market, the performance is damn good to put it up there with the best non-OLED panels and you’ll be spending more than double before you get to anything much better than the Evnia.
Aesthetics
The Evnia 27M2C5501 boasts a sleek and modern design with slim bezels and a subtle curve. The stand is sturdy and well-designed, and the Ambiglow lighting adds a touch of personality, throwing some unique lighting that’s surprisingly bright and colourful, but you can turn it down or turn it off, or even set a fixed colour if you so desire.
Features
This monitor is packed with gaming-focused features, including a high refresh rate, low input lag, and AMD FreeSync Premium. The SmartImage presets, ShadowBoost, and customisable crosshairs are also welcome additions. The Evnia 27M2C5501 offers a decent selection of ports, with two HDMI 2.0 inputs and one DisplayPort 1.4 input. However, the lack of USB-C connectivity might be a drawback for some users. However, it’s the fantastic panel that really steals the show.
Panel
The Fast VA panel delivers excellent contrast and vibrant colours. The 180Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time ensure smooth and responsive gameplay. You can get that down to 0.5ms in MPRT mode which strobes the backlight, but that does sacrifice some of the brightness. While HDR performance isn’t what I would call true HDR, it’s still really decent, black levels are very good for VA, and the colours really pop. The Evnia 27M2C5501 excels in gaming, allowing you to enjoy the high refresh rate, low input lag, and FreeSync technology.
Should I Buy One?
The Philips Evnia 27M2C5501 is a great choice for gamers seeking a high-refresh-rate curved monitor with excellent colour accuracy and a stylish design. It’s particularly well-suited for fast-paced competitive games. However, even for day-to-day use, 27″ at 2560×1440 is just great for daily work too. Overall, the Philips Evnia 27M2C5501 is a highly recommended gaming monitor that offers excellent performance, but also a price that is just superb value for money.
