PHILIPS Evnia 27M2C5501 180Hz QHD FreeSync Gaming Monitor Review

Philips is well known for its monitors, but its Evnia series stands as the jewel in its crown, often featuring the best designs, features and specifications. The Philips Evnia 27M2C5501 is far from their most extreme model, but it’s still very well equipped for those wanting a premium gaming experience. This monitor is built around a 27-inch curved VA panel, and boasts a crisp Quad HD resolution, delivering sharp details and promising vibrant colours. The real star of the show, however, is the 180Hz refresh rate, which should deliver buttery-smooth gameplay with minimal motion blur, taking full advantage of more powerful graphics cards and competitive online games.

PHILIPS Evnia 27M2C5501

Beyond speed, the Evnia 27M2C5501 incorporates plenty of gaming-focused features. AMD FreeSync Premium ensures tear-free visuals, while a 1ms response time (0.5ms with MPRT) will keep input response nice and tight. Philips also includes gaming-centric features like SmartImage presets, which optimise settings for different genres, and ShadowBoost, which enhances detail in dark areas, and customisable crosshair overlays.

Beyond its gaming prowess, the Evnia 27M2C5501’s curved display and slim bezels create a more immersive viewing experience. With HDR support and a wide colour gamut, although I’ve found VA panels to be a mixed bag for HDR; we’ll give it a test shortly, of course.
