Philips Hue to Get Reactive to Your Movies, Games and Music!

Philips Hue

I’m a big fan of Philips Hue technology. Last year we reviewed a bunch of cool hardware from Philips, showing us how far the future of lighting technology has come along. Since then, I’ve invested big in the technology, replacing every light bulb in my house with their ambience and colour lighting technology to great effect. With every firmware update since they’ve only gotten better too.

Five Years of Hue

To celebrate their fifth year of lighting prowess, Hue is ready to introduce their kits compatibility for content creators. They’ll allow the hardware to sync with movies, games, and even music by connecting through the Hue Hub. You might remember something similar for The Expanse, where it synced the series using your phone. I tried it, it worked well, but lacked configuration options for advanced users. This new tech, however, looks set to address those issues, and expand on the functionality.

When?

The new feature will go into an early access release in October, with an expected consumer launch in December.

What Else is New?

In October, you’ll also see improvements for Apple HomeKit compatibility, especially for switches and sensors. “When integrated with other smart home devices, you could even make your window blinds shut, thermostat turn to night temperature settings and lock the doors – ensuring the perfect sleep time set-up,” said Philips.

Coming soon are the Buratto and Buckram spotlights, as well as the new Felicity and Struana lamp for the bedroom and bathroom respectively. The current three bulbs packs are being replaced with a two and four bulb pack. Prices will range from $99 up to $199 dependant on package size and choice of ambiance or color bulbs.

As a child in my 40's, I spend my day combining my love of music and movies with a life-long passion for gaming, from arcade classics and retro consoles to the latest high-end PC and console games. So it's no wonder I write about tech and test the latest hardware while I enjoy my hobbies!
