How Much Does it Cost?
The Philips Screeneo UL5 Smart comes with international power cords and a remote control. For the time being, it is available exclusively on Indiegogo from Tuesday, 11 June 2024, available for just £614. However, once the campaign ends the 44% discount will be gone, and it’ll be a little over £1000.
Overview
The Philips Screeneo UL5 boasts a sleek and compact design that really took me by surprise, it’s so lightweight and easy to move that you can reasonably use it in the bed room for a lazy movie night, pick it up, take it to the living room to spend time with the family, and it sets up fast, it focused its self, and it’s one of the few projectors that I feel is actually suited to just pointing at a white wall rather than a fixed screen. It’s meant for usage pretty much where ever, but of course, if you do have a projection screen, that will give you better results than a wall would.
The availability of multiple input options, including USB Type-C, HDMI 2.1, and Bluetooth 4.2, allows for seamless connectivity with various devices, while the built-in app support provides access to popular streaming services but I’d still rather use the UI on something like my Xbox as you reap the benefits of a more powerful underlying system. The inclusion of a gaming mode with reduced input latency further enhances the user experience for gamers, I wouldn’t call it a gaming projector, but for running around in Skyrim on the big screen it held up great, but I wouldn’t expect to be as competitive in Battlefield as I would sitting on my PC gaming monitor.
When it comes to performance, the Philips Screeneo UL5 delivers impressive image quality, especially considering its compact size. The projector’s laser light source contributes to vibrant colours and excellent contrast, even in comparison to larger, more expensive models. While the Full HD resolution might not be the highest on the market, the overall image clarity and colour reproduction are exceptional and cannot be ignored. Additionally, the projector’s HDR capabilities and decent brightness levels, particularly in controlled lighting environments, ensure an enjoyable viewing experience for movies and games. The built-in speakers provide adequate sound quality for casual use, but the option to connect external audio devices is going to be more idea for movie nights if you want a more rounded experience.
Should I Buy One?
For me, it’s not a product I need, as it doesn’t fit my space as my house has little space on the walls for projection, and largely my house has textured walls and wall paper. Of course, that’s why I use a pull-down screen in front of my living room windows. There’s a projector out there for everyone, and the Screeneo UL5 is sure to meet the demands of a lot of people. It’s bright, has gorgeous colour reproduction, runs pretty quiet, it’s fantastically compact, and overall, I’m really happy with it. Being able to move it from room to room, and throw a 100″+ image with virtually no setup on to an available wall is sure to put a smile on anyone’s face.
