If you’re like me and want a big screen for the living room, but are sick of paying for TV receivers you never use as you stream all your content, then Phillips might have you covered with their latest monitor. The new massive BDM4065UC has a 40-inch 4K panel, offering Ultra-HD resolution up to 3840 x 2160 pixels.
The massive 40-inch monitor helps to display the high 4K resolution a lot better due to a more native pixel pitch and font sizes. This prevents the issues smaller monitors might have with the scaling of the content. The new BDM4065UC is based on a vertical alignment panel and supports 60Hz refresh rates when connected through a DisplayPort connection. The contrast is 5000:1, the brightness is 300 cd/m2 and the viewing angle is 176 degrees both horizontal and vertical.
The screen surface is a semi-glossy and anti-glare which is said to be pleasing by those who have experienced the monitor at IFA Berlin. Philips quote a 3ms Grey to Grey response time with their SmartResponse pixel overdrive technology (8.5ms typical with a lower setting), but those specs should be taken with a pinch of salt given the VA panel technology.
The Phillips BDM4065UC monitor has a built-in four-port USB 3.0 hub with fast charging technology for easy connectivity. Display connections are covered by a D-Sub RS232, a DisplayPort, a Mini DisplayPort and two HDMI 1.4 ports. One of the HDMI ports supports MHL, but none of them support 60Hz in 4K due to them being version 1.4. Luckily that is covered by the two DisplayPort connections. It further has an analog audio in and output for headset as well as two built-in 7W stereo speakers.
Other features included are picture in picture and picture by picture. The monitors are expected at retailers around the 8th December according the search-probes and will cost less than £600 including VAT.
