AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition Pictured in AMD Labs

AMD unveiled their Radeon Vega Frontier Edition graphics cards two days ago, showing the latest generation Radeon for professional use. It has a gorgeous brushed aluminum shroud with distinct yellow highlights, although image appeared to be just a render for now.

AMD’s senior marketing director Chris Hook tweeted a teaser photo showing the actual card in their Markham, Ontario labs. Specifically, AMD is testing the Frontier’s lighting system. It appears as if the LED is green in the teaser photo it is actually yellow. The brushed aluminum body color called “Pro Blue” contrasts nicely with the yellow LED lighting.

Not for Gaming?

The new video card is specifically built for professional workload use. Although at its core, it will share some features with Vega gaming graphics cards. Raja Koduri himself confirms that you can play games with the Radeon Vega Frontier Edition. It has some extra optimizations for professional use and these optimizations drive the cost much higher than regular AMD Radeon Vega graphics cards. If gaming is the goal, waiting for the non-professional version is worth it.

This card features 64 Next-Generation Compute Units. It can deliver 13 Teraflops of Peak Single-Precision and 32-bit Computer Performance. In comparison, the GTX 1080 Ti and Titan Xp from NVIDIA top out at 11.3TFLOPS and 12TFLOPS respectively.
