Pirates of Black Cove PC Review

Final ThoughtsThis game was a refreshing change of pace, without conforming to the standard model that all modern games seem to be designed around. The water on this game was beautiful, as you sail through reefs the clarity of the water changes allowing you to see fish and even the occasional whale. There are parrots and seagulls littering the sky and the game is vibrant and has a unique style, even down the cannon holes in the sails of your ship. The sea based game play is not revolutionary, but simple and effective.
I wish I could say the same for the land based game play, the appearance isn’t a scratch on the sea and felt unfinished, the missions were repetitive and all too easy, the RTS aspect was almost looked over, and in its place stood an unfinished and unnecessary RPG based system.
The voice acting for this game was amusing but unacceptable, I did like the cut scenes style as it set the scene perfectly (only to be let down by a poor script and voiceovers). I wouldn’t say this was a bad game, just unfinished. Many things seem to have been over looked and the result was many features that didn’t really fit together and left the game with many boring segments, eventually linking up a few fun moments. It would have been nice to have seen a multiplayer option, possibly a three player co-op campaign.
Pros:
- Beautiful water
- Nice artwork
- Fun ship game play
Cons:
- Unnecessary RPG elements
- Poor land based combat
- Easy to defeat AI
- Poor visuals
- Horrible voice acting
- No multiplayer
