Pixar is set to release their 19th feature film entitled ‘Coco’ on November 22. The story revolves around an aspiring 12-year old boy musician named Miguel who one day accidentally enters The Land of the Dead. Miguel comes form a family that just happens to hate music, and this Land of the Dead just happens to be the opposite.
What makes this movie unique however is that for the first time, they are releasing a companion VR experience at the same day as the movie’s launch. Leveraging VR technology, Coco VR lets players enter and experience the same musically filled Land of the Dead that Miguel explores. The trailer teases some aspects of the experience and it seems ideal for a fun family romp. Especially if you are the kind of family that loves musicals (so that counts Miguel’s family out).
Disney and Pixar call the game, a “social experience” as it allows for multiple players to enter the VR “dead” realm together. It will be available for the Oculus Rift a few day earlier on November 15. However, Samsung Gear VR users will be able to experience it on November 22, the day of the film’s U.S. release.
